The Sleep and Emotional Memories Project is a study investigating the relationship between sleep and intrusive memories
Intrusive memories are common in the aftermath of trauma, and these can develop into a pervasive, distressing symptom of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Our study will examine how sleep contributes to the development and maintenance of symptoms of PTSD. The outcome of this research will have implications for understanding factors contributing to the development of PTSD symptoms following trauma exposure.
Many people who experience PTSD, also report sleep disturbances. Sleep disturbances are highly associated with development of PTSD symptoms, including intrusive memories.
We know that sleep affects the development of intrusive memories, however why sleep and intrusive memories are related is not well understood.
Explore how sleep and sleep loss contribute to the development of intrusive memories.
