As a member of the Monash Residential Services (MRS) residential community, you are required to respect your fellow residents and conduct yourself in a way that fosters a safe and comfortable living environment for everyone.
Every resident has a right to be treated with dignity and respect.
We encourage all residents to continue developing their understanding of consent whilst living at MRS.
Workshop and training opportunities can be found here.

A noise curfew is in place from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM, where noise must be kept to an absolute minimum. This includes your bedroom and the outdoor and shared areas of the hall.
If your music can be heard outside your room, it is too loud.
Do not practice musical instruments in your room—please use the designated music room.
Avoid loud conversations near other residents' doors or windows, especially at night.
If someone nearby is being too loud, consider politely asking them to lower the volume. Often, people are unaware they’re being disruptive and will appreciate the reminder.
If you're uncomfortable approaching them or the noise continues, speak with your RA.
If a neighbour asks you to turn your volume down, please be respectful and do so promptly.
For late-night disturbances, contact Monash Security at +61 3 9902 7777.
Monash Residential Services (MRS) promotes responsible alcohol consumption and has an established Alcohol Procedure that all residents are expected to follow. Irresponsible behaviour while under the influence of alcohol is not acceptable, and all residents are accountable for their actions.
If you choose to consume alcohol while living at MRS, here are some things to consider:
Be considerate of other residents, particularly when going out and returning to your residence.
Drinking games are not permitted anywhere within MRS.
If you plan to drink with friends after 10:00 PM, please use designated common areas or another shared space away from resident bedrooms.
Alcohol may be consumed responsibly (if you are over the age of 18) in most areas of the residence.
Participation in drinking is completely optional. No one should feel pressured to drink or uncomfortable in any space due to others’ alcohol consumption.
Decorating your room is a great way to make it feel comfortable and homely!
Before starting, here are some things to consider:
We recommend you use 'blu-tac' that will not damage the walls in your room.
Any decorations should not cover up fire, evacuation, or safety equipment.
Decorations must not damage any surfaces in the room.
Ensure you understand the requirements of your room, click here.
MRS has contract cleaners who keep the halls clean. As a resident, you are also expected to take steps to keep your room and the hall common spaces in a clean and tidy condition.
Residents are responsible for cleaning their bedrooms - including vacuuming and dusting
Wash and put away all dishes and cooking equipment after use so cleaners can clean public kitchens properly
Do not leave items in corridors which become trip hazards
Use the correct recycling bins
Wipe up any spills and/or food mess in communal kitchens – we don’t want to attract pests
Throw out any unwanted food before it becomes spoiled
Keep public lockers clean
Monash University cares about the environment, and is committed to a renewable future. Here at MRS, we've set up a number of sustainability initiatives, such as organic waste composting, our charity donations, and the Green Impact program.
Composting: Compost bins for organic waste can be found in the veggie gardens. Small compost bins are not permitted in hall kitchens, as this runs the risk of creating a hygiene issue or attracting pests.
Recycling: Commingled recycling bins (yellow lids) can be located in your Hall's waste station. Avoid having recycled waste unnecessarily diverted to landfill by recycling properly, and only adding accepted items to commingled bins.
eWaste: The Victorian Government has now banned electronic devices/appliances from entering landfill. Dispose of your eWaste correctly by using one of our eWaste bins located at Roberts Hall and Holman Hall waste stations.
Used Cooking Oil: You can recycle your used cooking oil by taking it to the Used Cooking Oil Collection Station behind Halls Cafe.
