Students will complete their placements during Semester 2, 2026 (27 July – 23 October), requiring 96 placement hours over 13 weeks, including a 1-week mid-semester break (21 September – 25 October).
Schedule: The standard schedule is one day per week (8 hours) or two half-days (4 hours each), but hours can be flexibly distributed based on project needs (e.g., students assisting with events may have lighter hours initially and longer shifts closer to the event).
Mid-Semester Break: Students can pause or use this time to complete hours early.
Academic Balance: Hosts should be mindful of students’ academic workload and avoid excessive scheduling.
Hybrid/Remote Placements: Highly supported, particularly for students undertaking interstate or international placements. All hours must be logged and verified by hosts.
Early May–End of May: Host organisations indicate interest to become a host, identify placement tasks with the Psychology Placement Team, and submit project/task descriptions to be advertised to students.
Early June–Mid June: Student placement preferences are gathered. The Psychology Placement Team matches student(s) to placement sites based on their preferences.
Mid June–Mid July: Host organisations are informed of their matched student(s), conduct orientations/induction meetings and interviews (if necessary), and confirm the student(s) assigned to them.
End of July–End of October: Students commence placements from the week of 27 July 2026 and complete them by 23 October 2026.
Early Nov–Mid Nov: Host organisations to sign all students’ placement timesheets and complete their Professional Practice Evaluations.
We request that host organisations conduct at least three formal supervision meetings with student(s) at the start, middle, and end of the placement:
Orientation/Induction meeting: Set goals and outline the structure of the placement, while addressing any OHS, confidentiality, and ethics requirements.
Mid-placement check in: Review the student’s participation and performance, and discuss any further goals for the remainder of the placement.
End of placement review: Provide feedback on the student’s performance, complete the Professional Practice Evaluation, and discuss career aspirations as appropriate.
