Where can I apply to become a host for student placements?
You can apply by submitting your details here or by contacting the Psychology Placement Team (mum-psychplacement@monash.edu).
How do students choose their preferred placement site?
First, students review the advertised project/task descriptions provided by host organisations. They then complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) form indicating their preferred placement sites. Lastly, the Psychology Placement Team matches students to placement sites based on these preferences.
Are we required to interview students before placement?
You can interview students if you wish, but it is not mandatory. Please keep in mind that this placement may be their first professional experience in an external organisation. Some students may feel shy or nervous, so a supportive and welcoming approach during interviews and onboarding can help them integrate more smoothly into your team.
What are the attendance requirements for students?
Students are required to be present at the workplace or work remotely/flexibly for the agreed-upon hours per week, unless you have formally approved adjustments, such as completing some hours in subsequent weeks. If a student is unable to attend due to illness or a personal or family emergency, they have been instructed to notify their Placement Supervisor as soon as possible and discuss how to make up the missed hours. If you have ongoing concerns regarding a student's attendance, please contact the Psychology Placement Team (mum-psychplacement@monash.edu).
How do students track and submit their placement hours?
Students must submit placement timesheets to track their attendance and total placement hours. They are encouraged to submit these weekly to the Psychology Placement Team, even if they have not engaged in placement that week. Towards the end of their placement, students must compile their timesheets and have them signed off by their Placement Supervisor. The signed timesheets should be submitted to the Psychology Placement Team by the end of the semester, along with the completed Professional Practice Evaluation from the Placement Supervisor.
Are we expected to pay students for their placement hours?
No, work-integrated learning placements are unpaid, as students undertake them as a requirement of their course of study. Students are responsible for all associated costs, including accommodation and travel, and must ensure they have sufficient funds to cover their placement expenses.
Can psychology students provide clinical services?
No, as undergraduate psychology students, they cannot provide clinical services (e.g., therapy, helplines). Monash University strictly adheres to APAC’s Accreditation Standards for Psychology Programs, and public safety remains a core guiding principle of our psychology program.
What should I do if I have concerns about a student's behaviour?
If you have any concerns about a student’s behaviour, please contact the Psychology Placement Team (mum-psychplacement@monash.edu) immediately.
Where can host organisations find a full checklist to prepare for student placements?
Please refer to pages 9–11 of our 2025 Placement Guide for the full checklist.
What if we are unable to host students this year but are interested in future collaboration?
You can still fill in the Expression of Interest (EOI) form to indicate your interest for future opportunities. The Psychology Placement Team looks forward to collaborating with you and your organisation when capacity allows.
