The Hewlett Packard internal report found that 46.4% of men and 40.6% of women did not apply for a job because they felt that they did not fully meet the qualifications for the position. This indicates that almost half of applicants believe that they need to fully meet the qualifications; not to do the job well, but to be hired in the first place. Most applicants don't see that the hiring process contains a multitude of factors, which include, but are not limited to: relationships, style, and the approach in framing one's expertise. This is a more of a misconception about the hiring process more so than an undervaluation of one's own ability. Confidence is important and putting yourself out there is the first step in achieving success.
