A native Michigander, I began teaching in Northwest Indiana before coming to Mokena in 2000.
Not only am I an avid Bears fan with a soft spot for the Lions, but I used to coach football before my kids were born. With degrees from both Ball State and the University of Michigan, I cheer for my schools in all things, too. For pro baseball and hockey, I go back to my upbringing and favor the Detroit's Tigers and Red Wings.
In my off hours, I have taken up running and obstacle course racing. I studied taekwondo, play guitar, read -- lots of non-fiction and some westerns-- and write.

Trivia: One of my hobbies is genealogy and I've traced my family tree back hundreds of years. My roots reach back to Germany, England, Norway, Canada, France, Luxembourg, and the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Martinez may be one of the most common Spanish names in the world, but the unique spelling of my last name is because my great-grandparents were Slovak immigrants from a small village in central Europe.
