Why a Mud Turtle?

According to legend, "Mokena" means "land of the mud turtle" so in your final year of District 159 we want you to embrace your heritage even as you look to the future.

You are now part of the proud legacy of Mokena's 8th graders.  Mud Turtles contribute without reward, progress without a push, and do the right thing even when no one is looking. Many fine students have been Mud Turtles before you, and you will continue to set the standard for those who follow in your footsteps.  

So have fun.  Work hard. Be great.  Be a Mud Turtle.
