Students are eligible to enroll in Kindergarten if their 5th birthday falls on or before September 1, 2025.
To be eligible for early entrance to kindergarten, a child must:
● turn five years old by December 31 of the proposed Kindergarten year
● have attended (and completed) a preschool program throughout the entire school year immediately preceding the proposed kindergarten year
● have a recommendation from the preschool teacher endorsing early entrance into kindergarten
Parents/guardians wishing to apply for early entrance for their child must:
● contact the Mokena Elementary School principal to discuss intentions for early entrance before May 1st
● provide a copy of the student’s birth certificate
● provide proof of residency
Once the above are completed, the following evaluation steps will take place:
1) Preschool screening assessment
2) FastBridge Early Literacy and Early Numeracy Fall Kindergarten Screeners, then based on results the process either ends or step 3 is
scheduled
3) Cognitive evaluation completed by school psychologist, then based on results the process either ends or step 4 is completed
4) Completion of a social screener, preschool observation, and preschool teacher questionnaire
5) If all 4 steps are completed, the school team reviews the reports with the building principal to determine eligibility for early entrance
6) The building principal will contact parents to share the results of the evaluation and entrance decision
If you would like your child to be considered for early entrance to Kindergarten and they meet the requirements above, kindly send an email request to Mrs. Chorley, MES Principal, at chorleyr@mokena159.org
