The Chokyi Gyatso Institute

Bhairav Kunda
Bhairav Kunda in Jomotsangkha, Samdrup Jongkhar, is a revered sacred site steeped in spiritual and cultural significance. Nestled amidst dense forests and pristine natural beauty, the site features a sacred pond believed to be connected to Lord Bhairav, a fierce form of Lord Shiva.
Pilgrims visit Bhairav Kunda to seek blessings, perform rituals, and immerse themselves in its serene environment. The site is adorned with traditional Bhutanese prayer flags, which flutter in the breeze, symbolizing prayers and goodwill spreading across the land.
Narphu- Samdrup Jongkhar Birding Route
Located about sixty kilometers away from the main town, the area near the famous mirror cliff (melong brak) is a sub-tropical forest with a warm climate and a variety of broadleaf trees. This makes it a popular place for birdwatching, as its home to approximately 262 different bird species found in Bhutan.
Samdrup Jonghkhar Dzong
Nestled in the eastern part of the Bhutan, Samdrup Jongkhar serves as a gateway to the enchangting valley of Trashigang, Trashiyangtse, Mongar, Lhuentse and Pemagatshel. These valleys are celebrated for their breataking natural beauty, vibrant cultural heritage and the inviting warmth of their people.
Druk Migyur Dechen Dzong
The new Pemagatshel Dzong, located in Denchi, has been officially named Druk Migyur Dechen Dzong by His Holiness the Je Khenpo.
Completed in 2023, this dzong serves as both the administrative and monastic center for the district. Its architecture harmoniously blends traditional Bhutanese design with modern elements, featuring intricate woodwork, vibrant murals, and spacious courtyards. The establishment of Druk Migyur Dechen Dzong symbolizes the district's cultural preservation and development.
Yongla Riwo Pelbar Dargeychhoeling Gonpa
Yongla Riwo Pelbar Dargeychhoeling Gonpa or the Pelri Gonpa, widely known today as Yongla Gonpa is one of the most well known monasteries under Pemagatshel Dzongkhag in eastern Bhutan. It is located on top of a mountaintop that resembles Phurba or Ritual dagger. The monastery was founded by Kheydrup Jigme Kundel from Darlung Kha in Wang, Thimphu in the 18th century.
Kheri Goemba
Kheri Goemba temple was built by Kuenga Wangpo, the son of Terton Pema Lingpa in the 15th century. It is located above Kheri Goenpa town. The Lhakhang houses holy statues of Buddha, Guru Rinpoche and Chenrigzi. An annual festival is conducted on the 10th day of the 4th month of the Bhutanese calendar.
Jashar Goenpa
Jashar Anim Goenpa was built by Anim Woesel Choden, the disciple of Togden Shakya Shri in 1958. Later, H.E. Gyeltshen Trulku constructed a monastery. Today, the Goenpa is home to more than 50 Anims studying there.
