Our Business Advisory Board is a dynamic connection between local businesses and the Mohonasen School System. In this partnership, we work together to develop work based learning opportunities for students, and communicate to understand and address the unique employment needs of our local community.
Our membership includes a variety of local business owners and employees, support agencies, school staff, students, parents and Mohonasen alumni. We are thankful for our partners who share their time and talents with us in an effort to help our students prepare for life after high school.
Our board first met in the fall of 2016, and has continued meeting up through the present time.
Our work throughout this time has included:
sponsoring career exploration and readiness events for students throughout the region
developing internships for students in the local community
providing guest speakers and tours of local businesses
evaluating curriculum
Meetings generally feature a speaker or project, and a student presentation. In the past we learned about the Future Skills Exchange platform with Lois Johnson, the director of Workforce Strategies at the Workforce Development Institute (WDI). Lois walked us through the platform sharing how it can be useful to job seekers, employers and educators. The advisory board also worked to compile information for the Portrait of a Mohonasen Graduate: a collective vision of what Mohonasen students should know and be able to do upon their exit from high school. Students in the robotics club demonstrated their creations and interns from the CEIP program discussed their work experiences. Networking and supporting local business are also a part of each meeting.
