Artist Statement

WHAT:

      • Your artist statement should be a well-crafted piece of writing. Spell check. Read it aloud to yourself. Have someone proof it. Imagine it being posted on a wall next to your work…representing you as a thoughtful, smart, and caring artist.
      • Your artist statement is about you, your creative process, your interests.
      • Your artists statement does not need to be long BUT it does need to be insightful, genuine, and well written.

HOW:

      • Use the Artist Statement Flow Chart (below)
      • Read examples provided (see links below).
      • Make a brainstorming list of what you want to write about.
      • First Draft.
      • Spell check. Revise. Read aloud.
      • Edit.
