WORKSHOP PROGRAM
Title: Designing and Implementing Simulations for HTA Using Discretely Integrated Condition Event (DICE) Simulation
Date and time: 4 September / 0900 -1200
Level: Intermediate
Session lead: Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore
Summary:
This session explains the concepts underlying DICE simulation and how these models work. Participants will be shown step-by-step how to design and implement a DICE model to structure anything from simple survival partition through Markov models, microsimulation and discrete event simulations. The session covers the components, the mechanics of implementing them, what to focus on during the model design, how to specify a DICE simulation in Excel and how to execute the model. The session will be part presentation with discussions and part hands-on training for the participants bringing a laptop with Excel. The Excel should run on the local computer and not in the Cloud.
Title: Advancing the Role of Equity in Health Technology Assessment: Introducing Methodology for Conducting Distributional Cost-Effectiveness Analysis (DCEA)
Date and time: 4 September / 0900 - 1200
Level: Beginner
Session lead: Health Economics Unit, Centre for Health Policy, School of Population and Global Health, University of Melbourne, HITAP (Thailand), Keio University (Japan), JIPMER (India), Tianjin University, National University of Singapore
Summary:
Health equity is now at the top of the policy agenda worldwide. To address equity in HTA, new robust methods have been developed such as distributional cost-effectiveness analysis (DCEA) and extended cost-effectiveness analysis (ECEA). A workshop for discussing and learning about the incorporation of equity in HTA and the exchange of ideas between leading academics and policymakers would be valuable in further advancing the understanding around the topic. This session will be divided into series of presentations and hands-on exercise
Title: Publishing Tips and Hot Topics
Date and time: 4 September / 0900 - 1200
Level: Beginner / Intermediate
Session lead: ASERNIP-S
Summary:
For dissemination of research studies and assessments, where possible, it is ideal to publish a summary of this work in a peer reviewed journal or as a conference abstract. The objective of this session is to give guidance on preparing high quality manuscripts and abstracts to improve the chance of acceptance. This will involve providing tips for success and also some examples to discuss interactively with participants.
Title: Open Innovation Test Beds (OITB): Single Entry Points Supporting Innovations on Its Pathway to the Market
Date and time: 4 September / 1400 - 1700
Level: Intermediate / Advanced
Session lead: iHTS
Summary:
Developing solutions to solve health issues needs creativity to overcome different resource levels. OITB is a platform that provides services to offer the different kind of knowledge and connections during the research and development (R&D) time. SAFENMT has provided services and structures that enable developers to access to a single- entry point for dialogue, knowledge, and resources to find its individual and most direct path to market. The EU-funded SAFENMT project has established an OITB for nano-enabled health technologies. The aim of the session is to introduce the concept of OITB and to present differences and advantages compared to traditional technology R&D.
Title: HTA Guideline Development
Date and time: 4 September / 1400 - 1700
Level: Beginner / Intermediate
Session lead: Health Intervention and Technology Assessment Program (HITAP), the National University of Singapore (NUS), and KEMRI Wellcome Trust
Summary:
HTA has been used to support health policy decisions regarding health benefit packages, as well as to promote efficient resource allocation in the health sector. This session aims to provide stimulating discussions relating to the development of HTA guidelines, as well as presenting findings from a study addressing a stepwise guide on developing HTA guidelines, that will be freely accessible to everyone. This session will also cover several underlying factors of successful development and implementation of HTA guidelines, considering different country contexts.
Title: Patient and Citizen Involvement (By Invitation Only)
Date and time: 4 September / 0900 - 1700
Level: Beginner
Session lead: HTAi PCI Interest Group
Summary:
The workshop, organised jointly by the HTAi Patient and Citizen Involvement Interest Group (PCIG) and MaHTAS, starts with an overview of essential concepts, methods and approaches related to patient involvement. This is followed by presentations on diverse experiences from different countries within HTAsiaLink network and collaborative group activities aimed at exploring strategies to incorporate patient and citizen involvement in HTA, current hurdles, challenges and way forward. Throughout the engaging full-day session, participants from multiple stakeholder groups will work together to design feasible pathways for involving patients and citizens in HTA that fit the context of HTA in Asia.
