Our Woodgrove Family

Chapter 2: A Family that Sticks Together Through Thick and Thin

Being able to assemble together again was an amazing feeling. During the peak of COVID-19, we were confined within the imaginary boundaries of ourselves - together, yet apart. As COVID-19 eased, we got together as a family once more, and our school became a place of reunion. The chatter, the laughter, the familiar buzz and energy trickled and built, slowly but surely. We started the year recognising only half of the faces of our friends and teachers, but we ended the year finding out what lay behind our masks. Navigating the world of facial expressions slowly became familiar territory, and we finally know in our hearts that Woodgrove is a home where we can feel comfortable with ourselves and each other.

Building Our School Through Dialogues

THIS JUST IN: For 2022, dialogue sessions for each level were carried out with our Principal, Mr Chua. This inaugural Student Forum allowed each class to share their honest feedback and ideas on how to improve their Woodgrove experience, be it in the classroom or around the school. Every class spokesperson got down to brass tacks and discussed issues close to our hearts, face-to-face with Mr Chua. We really put our heads together to help make Woodgrove a better place for all!

Chinese New Year

Amidst social distancing restrictions, we ushered in the year of the Tiger with celebrations in the classrooms! Our Chinese Orchestra, Modern Dance and Choir treated us to amazing performances in the concert video, while inter-class quizzes on Chinese New Year trivia were held over Zoom. Everyone then had a great time making origami tiger greeting cards and exchanging them with classmates!

Minister's Visit

On 22 April 2022, our Education minister, Mr Chan Chun Sing, visited Woodgrove Secondary School! After exchanging stories and discussing issues in our lives as students, he was guided around our school grounds by our enthusiastic students and staff. Were you one of them?

Woodgrove Awesome

Can't miss our annual talent show! Did you spot your friends giving their very best? Even the video we watched as a school was produced by our own in-house crew and editors!

Speech Day

We celebrated our 23rd Speech Day on 27th May! Every year, we recognise the accomplishments and achievements of Woodgrovers in various academic and non-academic areas on this special day. And of course, what's a celebration without exciting performances by our Chinese Orchestra, Modern Dance, and Woodgrove Chorale?

Racial Harmony Day

We welcomed Racial Harmony Day with an explosion of colour - one of the few school days we can see each other in something other than our school uniforms! Did you have fun seeing your classmates in something different or wearing something different yourself?

National Day

We all gathered together to celebrate National Day with a bang! Stylish and sharp, our Uniformed Groups marched the flag into the hall to spark off our school-wide concert after an edifying morning spent in the classroom discussing national issues. Happy 57th birthday, Singapore!

Teacher's Day

Our first physical Teacher's Day concert after two years, and it was a blast! Planned by our very own hardworking and dedicated Student Council, it was filled with fun, laughter, and thunderous applause as our students and even our teachers performed and acted their hearts out on stage. We even got to peek into the past and see what our teachers looked like when they were kids!

Graduation Ceremony

We bid a fond farewell to our graduating classes in a grand ceremony that saw our Secondary Four and Five seniors walk proudly down the centre of the hall for the last time with the rest of the school watching on. Inspiring speeches by our Students of the Year rang in our ears as we reminisced over the journeys that brought all our seniors to this day, while nostalgic photo montages and touching messages of encouragement from teachers and juniors made this ceremony one to remember.
