In March 2019, the government of Singapore set the "30 by 30" goal which aims to become 30% self-sufficient in food production by the year 2030. It aims to do this through high-tech vegetable farms (i.e. multi-storey hydroponics farms), and aquaculture farms.
Our Applied Learning Programme (ALP),“Sustainable Education” is an interdisciplinary programme that aims to develop literacy in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in students, with focus on sustainable development in Singapore. The three-year ALP experience facilitates students in connecting conceptual knowledge and skills learned in school with real-world challenges so that they can appreciate the relevance of their classroom learning to their everyday lives.
For students who are deeply passionate in this area, they are also exposed to higher-level research and engineering. The scope of knowledge is far beyond their normal science lessons and with many hands-on learning experiences. ALP tier 2 students have opportunities to work on special projects with scientists in the industries. Some of these students have been awarded the A*STAR scholarship over the past years.
