growth beyond just grades

I'm deeply grateful to Tampines Secondary School for its profound impact on my son's development.

Seeing my son joining secondary school can be daunting. Like many parents, I initially worried about how he would adapt. However, Tampines Secondary exceeded my expectations, creating an incredibly supportive environment that fostered both academic and personal growth.

As my son entered his teenage years, he was eager to leave childhood behind, but navigating this change can be tricky. Thankfully, the school's nurturing atmosphere provided him with the perfect springboard. My once reserved son has blossomed, actively participating in class and excitedly sharing his academic experiences. Most importantly, he exhibits genuine motivation to attend school every day.

What truly impressed me is the school's unwavering commitment to a holistic approach, emphasizing both academic success and personal growth. Tampines Secondary cultivates well-rounded individuals, encouraging diverse interests and fostering leadership skills. It's a place where students, like my son, are empowered to explore, learn, and thrive in every aspect of their lives.

a parent's view on Blended learning and pdlp

Home-Based Learning days will not be entirely a thing of the past.  In fact, it will be a standard practice in schools from 2021 onwards as COVID-19 still poses a threat.

2020 has transformed parents, teachers and students into technology gurus as we are constantly engaged in ZOOM lessons, Google Meet sessions, online shopping sprees and food deliveries. TPSS school staff and teachers have put in a huge amount of effort to conduct live lessons during the HBL period.  Kudos to all in TPSS as we braved through these difficult times!

According to MOE and The Straits Times report, home-based learning will be a norm for students starting from 2021 Term 3.  All secondary school students (Secondary 1 to Secondary 3) will be getting digital learning devices, a personal laptop or tablet, to facilitate their learning. As parents, we have our worries and concerns. Let us embrace this important change as our children must be savvy to be leaders of the digital world.

Hence, with this change, I believe that our children must and will also learn the importance of Discipline and Cyber Wellness, so as to be responsible cyber users.  Technology is advancing rapidly and industries are ever-changing. Solving big challenges like climate change or social inequality requires expertise that spans across multi-disciplinary boundaries. In a nutshell, this is just the beginning of many other challenges for our youth.  Are we ready to support them and go further beyond?

Let us embrace change and start learning with them. I believe that TPSS is also ready to partner us for the holistic development of our children.
