1) Can I request for funding for my SIG activities?
The college will not provide fundings for SIG activities.
SIGs should source and plan for activities that are within the financial means of respective members.
2) Can SIGs be formed at any time of the academic school year?
Please refer to the recommended timeline in the "Application" tab for the submission of SIG proposal. The intent of the Feb-Mar application timeline is to cater for proper team planning and a longer runway for the SIG to develop.
We understand that some interest groups may only surface after closer bonds are forged amongst students, hence there will be an additional application window opened during Term 3 Week 1 for new SIG proposals.
3) I like to do a particular sport that the school does not offer as a CCA. Can I start a SIG with other like-minded peers?
As SIGs are not under supervision of teachers, all activities of formalised SIGs are expected to be safe and have low risk of injury. Hence we regret that sports-based SIGs will not be approved based on the abovementioned parameters.
4) For my SIG activity, I need to apply to an external organisation with the college name. What can I do?
Please contact the SIG tutors in charge (see contact information below) for advice on a case-by-case basis.
5) How many members do I need to start a SIG?
As a SIG, working collaboratively is part of the experience. A minimum of 2 members is good enough to formally start a SIG, and you may rally and grow the member base through good work and publicity. It is recommended that I/Cs keep a record of the members in the SIG.
6) What are the deliverables of my SIG?
The deliverables are decided by your SIG proposer and members through discussion and negotiations. Note that all SIGs are required to self-maintain a Google Site linked to the TJC SIG Google Site to display relevant and key information about the SIG.
Lastly, for the SIG to be considered for renewal for the following year, a report should be provided to the tutors in charge at the end of the academic year.
7) I'm a JC2, is there a "cut-off" to my SIG involvement?
JC2 year is indeed a busy one as you are seniors to the student population and getting ready to reach the next milestone in your education journey. We strongly encourage JC2 students to SIG standdown from T3W1 so that there is time for consolidation of revision. If it brings a little more joy and helps you destress for you to participate in some SIG activities, please do manage your overall time and efforts - this is a deliberate decision that you make!
8) Can SIGs be closed down?
Yes they can. SIGs can be terminated if any of the following is surfaced:
(1) deemed to deviate from the objectives or intent of SIG;
(2) deemed to violate basic decorum and college standards of conduct;
(3) having no continuation planning for the following year.
For enquiries about SIG matters that is not addressed on this site, please email the following tutors.
