Students who wish to initiate or join SIGs are strongly encouraged to work on a related Student-Initated Learning (SIL) to align and deepen the learning experience!
Before forming your SIG, please read through the following guidelines:
OBJECTIVE(S) OF YOUR SIG SHOULD ENSURE:
Wholesome, educational learning experience and safe activities. (Sports-based SIG will not be approved.)
Application of learning to contribute to larger community.
WHAT THE COLLEGE WILL SUPPORT
Booking of classroom, 1.5 hr per week (up till 6pm).
Booking of morning assembly slots for relevant announcements.
Students can include SIG in personal statements, for scholarships / university ABA applications. SIG will be recorded in the Co-Curriculum record for Proposer and EXCO members.
Advice from relevant tutors at tutor's discretion.
WHAT THE COLLEGE WILL NOT SUPPORT
Funding / Fund Raising
Teacher oversight
Requests to conduct SIG activities during lessons, CCA, college events
Requests for SIGs to replace CCAs entirely
College lending weight to the SIG (Eg. “On behalf of TJC…”) will be on a case-by-case basis
VIA hours for externally organised volunteer work
OTHER CONDITIONS
Students must be emplaced and committed to participate in a College CCA.
Approval must be sought should external parties be involved.
Parental acknowledgement must be sought for all activities and involvement.
