FAQ
Q1. When can the Sec 2 students exercise their options?
A pre-subject preference survey exercise will be carried out in late May 2023. The actual exercise will be carried out in October 2023 after the End-of-Year Examination results are made known to students. Release of Sec 3 subject placement outcome is tentatively on the last day of school in Term 4.
Q2. How do the students exercise their options?
Students will log on to the online subject combination options selection portal (via the school website or https://go.gov.sg/aiss-sec3-subjcombination) to exercise the option. Details will be given out later.
Q3. Can a student change his / her option after he / she has exercised the option online before the deadline?
Yes, the student can log in via the online subject combination options selection portal in AllEars to opt again before the deadline on 22 Oct 2023 at 11.59 p.m. The latest option saved in the database would be used for the selection exercise. Any change to previous options submitted must be accompanied with a printed hardcopy form (duly signed by parents) to be given to the form teacher before the deadline given.
Q4. What are the chances that my child/ward will be allocated the combination/ elective subject that he / she wants to study in upper secondary?
The school uses the overall percentage to place and allocate the students into different classes. It is important that your child / ward makes his / her choice based on his / her results and his/her interest. For the elective subjects, your child must have interest in the subjects that they are choosing, especially coursework subjects, like Art / Design & Technology / Nutrition & Food Science.
Q5. If my child / ward is not allocated the combination/ elective of his/her choice, can we appeal?
Yes, provided your child / ward result met the qualifying criteria if any. The appeal is conducted from 27 Oct to 31 Oct 2023 (before 1200h) once the subject placement outcomes are released. You can obtain the appeal form from the online subject combination options selection portal. You can either pass the hardcopy to the General Office or email it (with signature) to the Sec 3 Subject Combinations Placement Committee for consideration. Please take note that you need to submit the appeal form to the school by the stipulated date. We regret to inform you that late submissions will not be considered.
Q6. What is the success rate of appeal?
The success of appeal cases is dependent on several factors. Your child / ward will only be considered for appeal if a student withdraws from a particular combination/ elective subject and if your child/ward is the next one on the list to study the combination/ elective subject. In addition, our class size is constrained by the school’s facilities and resources e.g. Science Lab, Computer Lab, Kitchen and Craft Workshop.
Q7. Who can I contact should I need further clarifications?
You may send your email to: uppersec_subject_placement@aiss.edu.sg or contact us at 6758 5384.
Q8. My child is unsure which subject combination would benefit her in the future. Should he/she go to a JC/poly? What should she do?
We strongly encourage parents to discuss with your child/ward on his/her interests, learning styles and explore possible tertiary options. Your child/ward may see the Form Teachers or the Education and Career Guidance officer, Ms Rachel Chew whom he/she can make an appointment with to explore his/her possible options. Ms Rachel is on-site in school on every Monday and Wednesday, 8.30am – 4.30pm.
