IDE hosts a variety of competitions each year, including the Virtual Robotics Competition and IDE Sprint.
Last year, Nullspace focused on improving robot adaptability on competition day pushing our on-the-spot thinking, and we're excited to see what they have in store for next year.
Hosted by MakeBlock annually, MakeX is a robotics competition that promotes multidisciplinary learning within the fields of Science and Technology.
MakeBlock hosts a variety of these competitions worldwide, each with a multitude of different categories such as MakeX:Spark, Tower League and Formula X, with each category having a unique objectives and requirements.
The Drone Odyssey Challenge is a national competition hosted by Science Centre Singapore where students program drones to complete missions.
It promotes teamwork, coding, and tech skills through game-based challenges focused on real-world drone navigation tasks.
Past Events
We participated in Tower League and FormulaX, achieving 3rd in both competitions. With Team DeComet winning Best Mechanical award for FormulaX
We participated in Drone Soccer and Obstacle Challenge. Achieving Champion, Best Knowledge and Best Strategy in the Obstacle Challenge.
We participated in Tower League and achieved 1st and 2nd placing. One of the Sec 3 team's robots: El Gato, also won Best Design!
Our CCA competed in three categories: Sumo, Sprint, and CodeHacker. We emerged victorious, placing 1st, 4th, and 6th in Sumo, with Kevin earning Silver in CodeHacker.
Our Sec 1s achieved the Engineering Award, building a solar powered clay pot air conditioner to tackle climate change.
Our CCA participated in Drone Soccer and Drone Obstacles, obtaining 4th place and Best Knowledge awards respectively.
In 2024, our Secondary Four students teamed up with MacPherson Community Club to teach basic robotics to local families.
It was amazing to see how engaged our students were in the activities.
Two of our teams participated in the First Lego League 'Superpowered' competition this year.
Tasks included getting the robot to collect energy units, deliver a dinosaur toy across the mat, and loading that dinosaur with a 'rechargeable battery' by hand.
We also researched on themes such as energy usage and climate change.
During the National Robotics Competition 2022, members had to conduct extensive research on a given topic related to robots, as well as construct a robot to complete a series of tasks
Members took part in building and coding for one of three categories:
Sprint - completing a course in the shortest time
Robotics - Completing a randomized mission
CodeHacker - pure programming in Python
Kevin achieved 1st place for CodeHacker, and a robotics team (comprising Cedric, Ansel and Neilson) clinched fifth place.
Due to the COVID-19 situation in Singapore, most other competitions were cancelled, making IDE the only one we attended that year. In the Robotics category, bots had to transport vaccines to a centrifuge, while in Sprint, teams focused on ensuring their bots could continue line tracing despite crossing an elevated section, similar to a hump.
In light of the Covid-19 situation, IDE held a virtual robotics competition, which was heavily reliant on the students' coding capabilities.
