The DMA ensures that students learn effectively in a safe digital environment in the following ways:
Schools can install teaching and learning applications, and security patches directly on students’ PLDs to address potential software vulnerabilities, and ensure that the PLDs work at an optimal level;
During lesson time, teachers can define the content that students can access on their PLDs so as to focus students’ attention on the lesson. This also facilitates e-assessments, such as quizzes, to check on students’ understanding;
Teachers can monitor how students are spending their time on their PLDs during lessons so that they can identify the ones who might need extra help.
The DMA also addresses cyber wellness concerns by:
Ensuring that the content which students access on the PLD is always relevant and age-appropriate;
Managing the amount of screen time to ensure that students get sufficient rest before each school day
The Device Management Application (DMA) software consists of the following three components:
Mobile Device Management Service
This facilitates the updating and management of the PLDs, protects PLDs from malicious internet content, or content that may not be conducive to teaching and learning during school hours.
Classroom Management Service
This enables teachers to manage the students’ use of the PLD during lesson time to improve classroom management and support effective teaching and learning. Teachers will only monitor students’ activities during lessons.
Usage Management Service
This enables the school and/or parents/guardians to better supervise and set helpful limits for students’ use of PLDs after school.
Parents can request to change their choice of DMA option by submitting the form at https://go.gov.sg/pcss-dma-change-request. The request will be processed by the school on a monthly basis.
