Day 4: Of Wonder and Awareness
A visit to Siem Reap would not be complete without seeing the iconic Angkor Wat. Today, we were up bright and early to catch the sunrise over its majestic towers. We climbed to the top for a bird’s-eye view of the vast temple grounds, taking in the grandeur of this ancient wonder.
Next, we explored the Bayon temple, known as the “face temple” for its towering stone visages. A stunning example of Khmer architecture. We then made our way to Ta Prohm, famously featured in Tomb Raider, where massive tree roots twist dramatically over ancient walls—a true reminder of nature’s power and time’s passage.
We also visited an eco soap bank and learnt about their inspiring mission. The organisation collects used soap from hotels, sanitises and recycles it into new soap bars for communities in need—helping to combat the spread of preventable diseases. A simple act, with a powerful impact.
To round off our journey, we spent our final night at the Phare Circus. Circus arts in Cambodia date back over a thousand years, but Phare is no ordinary circus. Blending theatre, music, acrobatics, and storytelling, it’s a celebration of Cambodian culture, and a platform for change.
The show is run by a non-profit arts school that supports children, youth, and the wider community. Through art, education, and outreach, they help keep young people off the streets, equip them with real-life skills, and open doors to sustainable careers.
It was a night of awe and artistry — one that reminded us that passion, creativity, and purpose can come together to change lives.
