The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) is an important school in Singapore. It offers Nitec, Higher Nitec, Technical Diploma, and Work-Study Diploma qualifications. ITE's main goal is to provide hands-on education, giving you practical skills that are directly useful for many jobs.2

ITE's courses are built around a Career Cluster-based Curriculum Framework (CCF).23 This means instead of training you for just one job, it prepares you for a group of related jobs in an industry. This makes you more flexible and able to adapt to new job demands.23 Courses are also broken down into modules, and you earn credits as you pass each module, giving you flexibility in how you learn.23 ITE offers many courses in areas like Health Sciences (e.g., Nursing), Business & Services (e.g., Accounting), Electronics & Info-Comm Technology (e.g., AI applications), Design & Media (e.g., Communications Design), and Engineering (e.g., Electrical Engineering).6

What to expect in the ITE CURRICULUM?

ITE's way of teaching is called "Hands-on, Minds-on, Hearts-on™" education.8 This means it helps you grow in all ways:

Hands-on Training: Gives you practical skills for jobs.8

Hearts-on Learning: Helps you love what you do, believe in yourself, and care about others.8

This way of learning means you'll always be putting theory into practice through projects, work experience, and learning by doing.8 ITE works closely with companies to design courses that teach you skills needed for today's jobs.8

A big part of this is the industry internship, where you spend three to six months getting real work experience.8 ITE also creates realistic training places in its colleges that look like real workplaces, sometimes using Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) to simulate complex job settings.8

ADMISSION to ITE (FRom 2028)

Admission to ITE Year 1

From AY2028 ITE intake, admissions requirements for entry to Year 1 of 3-year Higher Nitec courses will be set at G1

ITE aggregate score will be computed based on four G1 subjects
G3 and G2 grades will be mapped to G1 based on the grade mapping table (shown below)

The infographic includes a footnote (“*For students who meet ITE’s Year 1 academic requirements”), on the additional requirement for students with 4 G1 subjects to ITE Year 2.

Students who offer 4 G1 subjects may first progress to Year 1 of the 3-year Higher Nitec. Those who meet academic requirements during their Year 1 Semester 1 examinations may be offered the option for in-flight acceleration, which allows direct progression directly to Year 2 in the following semester.

Direct Admission to ITE Year 2

From AY2028 ITE intake, admission requirements for direct entry into Year 2 of three-year Higher Nitec courses will be set at G2.

Student must obtain an ELMAB3 (English, Maths and best three subjects) aggregate of 19 points or better, based on G2 grades
Students with G2 subjects, or a mix of G2 and G3 subjects will be able to apply for direct entry into Higher Nitec Year 2. G3 grades will be mapped to G2-based on the grade mapping table (shown below)

Progression from ITE to Polytechnics

From the AY2027 Poly intake, all Higher Nitec graduates with a minimum raw GPA of 2.5 will be eligible to apply for admission to Polytechnics. This was revised from minimum raw GPA of 2.0, to ensure that ITE graduates can better cope with the academic rigour of a polytechnic education.

Guaranteed Polytechnic Admission

From the AY2027 Poly intake, polytechnic admission will be guaranteed to all Higher Nitec graduates with a minimum raw GPA of 3.5, for admission to poly courses that are mapped to ITE courses

ITE Progression Award (IPA)

To encourage young ITE graduate to upskill early, Singaporean ITE graduates aged 30 and below:

will receive a top-up of $5,000 in their Post-Secondary Education Account when they enroll in a diploma issued by MOE-funded institutions. This is to help with the upfront costs of obtaining a diploma.
Upon diploma completion, ITE graduates will receive a top-up of $10,000 in their CPF Ordinary Account. This is to boost their savings for longer-term goals, like buying a house.
