The range of subjects offered at upper secondary are carefully considered to ensure that there are multiple viable pathways for all students. It also takes into account the school’s manpower resourcing and timetabling feasibility.
The following subject combinations are offered:
Some subjects have prerequisite criteria so that students have the necessary foundational skills and content to cope with the demands at upper secondary level:
Through our Education and Career Guidance (ECG) programme, students are guided to discover their interests, strengths and aspirations, so that they can make informed decisions about their options. They are guided by their teachers with the use of a digital ECG advisor known as the Personal Education Career (ePEC) plan.
During the options exercise in Term 4, students will be asked to choose their options, in order of preference. They should exercise all their options and choose carefully based on:
● relevance to aspired post-secondary educational pathways
● strengths and interests in the various subjects
● demands of the various subjects (foundational skills and content, difficulty level etc)
● demands of the subject combination (i.e., number of subjects and ability to cope among other commitments such as CCA and leadership opportunities)
Subject combinations are allocated based on overall merit (i.e. overall results of all subjects at Sec 2 and relevant subjects), choice and constraints of timetabling/physical resources/staffing situation.
While the school will try to allocate students their preferred options (subject prerequisites must be met) as far as possible, not all students will be given their choices. Where demand is high for certain combinations/subjects, students with better overall scores will be considered for placement first. When the places are filled, students will be considered for their next choice.
Students who fail to submit their options by the given deadline or fail to secure any of their options will be allocated a subject combination at the school’s discretion.
Students will be informed of their allocated subject combination in early November 2026. Appeals will be considered only if the students meet the prerequisites for the subject combination and only if there are still vacancies for the subject combination. The appeal outcome is final. No further appeals will be considered.
The schedule of activities for the options exercise are as follows:
