The Additional Mathematics curriculum at Upper Secondary is specially designed for students with a keen interest and aptitude in mathematics who are looking to deepen their understanding and prepare for more advanced studies.
The syllabuses helps students:
Master mathematical concepts and skills needed for higher-level math and science.
Strengthen logical reasoning, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Connect math with real-world scenarios, especially in science and engineering.
Appreciate the abstract beauty and real-world power of mathematics.
The concepts and skills covered in the syllabus are organised along 3 content strands. The development of processes, metacognition and attitudes are embedded in the learning experiences that are associated with the content.
Key topics include:
Functions: Linear, Quadratic, Exponential, Logarithmic, Trigonometric
Calculus: Basic differentiation and its applications
You’ll apply what you learn to real-world contexts like:
Projectile motion (physics)
Profit and cost analysis (business)
Population growth and radioactive decay (biology, chemistry)
Tidal patterns and harmonic motion (geography, physics)
The G3 and G2 Additional Mathematics syllabus culminates in a national examination at the end of Secondary 4, administered by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB).
The assessment objectives (AOs) reflect the emphasis of the syllabuses and describe what students should know and be able to do with the concepts and skills learned in each syllabus.
The AOs for the respective syllabuses are given below
O-Level Additional Mathematics (Code – 4049, First Year of Examination – 2021)
N(A)-Level Additional Mathematics (Code – 4051, First Year of Examination – 2021)
