Dear North Stars,
Please refer to the following pages for more information on the various school-based assessment matters for 2026:
Guiding Principles and policy
The school strives for academic excellence and the focus is on quality teaching and learning where students are engaged in joy of learning with meaningful and deep learning experiences, and the development of 21st century competencies.
Academic results are only part of learning outcomes. While academic results are important, it is not healthy to place an over-emphasis on grades and marks. Academic results are not the only indicator of students’ learning progress.
The conduct of school-based assessments is aligned closely with MOE’s policies and guidelines. This includes ensuring a manageable assessment load and demand on students that supports sustainable learning, designing assessment according to the stipulated assessment objectives in the subject syllabuses, and using assessment information to provide feedback to students, improve teaching and learning practices, and make sound school-based decisions on assessment- related issues.
Each method of assessment serves a different purpose and will be used appropriately. Not all assessments done in class will be part of the weighted assessment. Teachers will leverage in-class formative assessment strategies to monitor students’ learning and effectiveness of teaching and learning.
It is the responsibility of each student to check and ensure they are apprised of the assessment schedule. This is part of being a self-directed learner.
Students should observe the rules and regulations for school-based assessments.
Treatment of Absentees
If a student is absent for any school assessment (WA or EYE), an original medical certificate (MC) or an official letter and supporting documents must be provided. Please note that the following will not be accepted: letters from parents or guardians, and certificates from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners. Non-essential travel during term time will not be considered a valid reason for absence.
