Full Subject-Based Banding
Full Subject-based Banding (Full SBB) will be implemented in all secondary schools with effect from 2024. Our school has started implementing Full SBB since 2022.
How is Full SBB implemented?
Students will be placed in mixed Sec 1 form classes.
Students in the same form class will learn a common curriculum for six subjects comprising one-third of curriculum time. The six common subjects are Art, Character & Citizenship Education (CCE), Design & Technology (D&T), Food & Consumer Education (FCE), Music and Physical Education (PE).
You may visit MOE’s PSLE Full SBB microsite for more information.
Subject-Based Banding (SBB)
Taking subjects at a more demanding level
Today, all secondary schools offer English Language, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue Language at a more demanding level through SBB, if students meet the subject-specific criteria. The criteria for taking these subjects at a more demanding level from the start of Secondary 1 is based on students’ PSLE AL Score for each subject.
Students are eligible if they have performed well in these subjects at the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). Please check Parents Gateway for the offer letter(s) that will be sent later on Wednesday, 20 December 2023 afternoon, and respond to the offer(s) for your daughter/ward by Thursday, 28 December 2023. Students should only purchase books for SBB subject(s) after your acceptance of SBB Offer.
Taking subjects at a less demanding level
For students who offered English, Mathematics and/or Science at Foundation level at PSLE and are eligible to offer the subject(s) at G3 based on their overall PSLE Score, they will have the option to offer the subject(s) at G2, a less demanding level.
For Mother Tongue Languages (MTL), students have the option to offer MTL at a less demanding level based on their MTL performance at the PSLE as shown in the table below:
Students are encouraged to offer subject(s) at the indicative level based on their overall PSLE score. Should your daughter/ward be eligible to offer subject(s) at a less demanding level and wishes to do so, please send us a request at chijsjcs@moe.edu.sg with the subject “Offer subject at a less demanding level” by Thursday, 28 December 2023.

Art and Music Elective Programmes (AEP/MEP)
The AEP and MEP are Special MOE programmes for students with passion and aptitude in art/music so that they can further deepen their knowledge, skills and appreciation in these areas. The programmes aim to develop students as practitioners, scholars, advocates and leaders in the arts and to provide an enriched art/music learning environment for students to pursue an in-depth study into art/music.
At the end of four years, students who are offered the AEP/MEP will sit for the Higher Art/Music syllabus at O-level.
