DEVICE MANAGEMENT APPLICATION (DMA)
What is DMA and what does it do?
DMA is a suite of software installed in the device to enable the school and parents to manage and monitor device usage by students.
Role of DMA in Supporting Student Learning
The DMA will come pre-installed on all PLDs purchased through the school, and will be installed on all student-owned devices subject to parental/guardian consent. Other than supporting teaching and learning, it also ensures that the child/ward's learning is uninterrupted and focused. This will complement the digital literacy efforts in school.
The DMA has 3 main components which will support the use of the PLD in the classroom and safeguard students’ cyber wellness:
classroom management
This enables teachers to actively monitor and control the student's use of the PLD during lesson time to improve student management and deliver effective teaching.
mobile device management
This facilitates the remote deployment of teaching and learning applications and comes with security patches. The school may also leverage on the Mobile Device Management Service to install teaching and learning resources.
usage management service
This allows the school to address cyber wellness concerns, such as excessive and inappropriate use of the PLD and manage prolonged use of the PLD to reduce stress on the eyes.
dma software: MOBILE GUARDIAN
The DMA software, Mobile Guardian, will be installed on your child/ward's device to provide a safe learning experience for your child/ward, and to prevent misuse of the device.
Installation of the DMA will be performed after the collection of the device. Students will be guided on the installation.
This applies to both devices purchased through the school and pre-existing student-owned devices.
The DMA will be funded by MOE and will be uninstalled from the device when your child/ward graduates from our school.
In rolling out the PLD, MOE is aware of concerns regarding students' cyber wellness. The DMA allows the school to manage this by:
Collecting data on usage by the student, such as the amount of time spent on each application,
Monitoring, filtering and limiting the type of websites accessible to the student, and
Placing restrictions on student's screen time in order to prevent cyber addiction.
