The 16th National Junior Watercolour Competition​

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Singapore Watercolour Society (SWS) has been organising the National Junior Watercolour Competition since 2007 to promote watercolour medium amongst the youth in Singapore. This competition is organised in conjunction with the SWS  55th annual exhibition to be held at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Center (SCCC) Multi- Purpose Hall, Level 7, from Sat 7- Thu 12 Sep 2024.

This competition is open to all Pre-School and Primary school students aged 5 -12 years old who are currently studying in Singapore. The theme of this competition is “My Singapore – My Home”. Students will compete in 2 groups as follows:

Group A : 5 - 9 years old

Group B : 10 - 12 years old

Students will prepare their works at home or in school. The painting is to be submitted to the SWS Telok Kurau Studio (91, Lorong J Telok Kurau, Room 304, Singapore 425985) on 6 Jul 24 between 10 am – 2 pm.

A total of 23 awards per group will be presented. The first prize is $200, second prize is $150, third prize is $100, and 15 consolation awards. All participants will receive a certificate of participation and there is NO entry fee for this competition. Participants are to create their paintings independently without assistance, otherwise it will be disqualified.

Winners will be announced on 5 Aug 2024 on the SWS Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ SWSFBPage) and other social media platforms. They will also be notified in writing and are expected to attend the prize giving and opening ceremony of the exhibition at SCCC on 7 Sep 24 from 2 pm – 4 pm. Winning works will be exhibited alongside those of SWS artists at the exhibition.

Except for the winning entries, all other paintings are to be collected during the exhibition period at the SCCC from 7-12 Sep 2024. Winning paintings are to be collected on the last day of the exhibition, 12 Sep 2024, from 5 pm to 7 pm. Any uncollected paintings after 12 Sep 2024 will be disposed of in a manner deemed fit by the organiser.

To prepare students for the competition, 2 zoom demonstrations will be conducted on 15 and 22 June, at 10 am. Interested participants are to register by scanning the QR code in the attached event poster.
