CCA Matters

Where can I find out more about CCAs and CCA-related matters in AI?

You can find more information related to CCA on our school website.

https://www.ahmadibrahimsec.moe.edu.sg/our-co-curriculum/co-curriculum/

What is the CCA grading system?

We follow the MOE LEAPS 2.0 framework. More information is available in:

https://www.moe.gov.sg/education-in-sg/our-programmes/cca/leaps2-0

Can my child/ward join more than one CCA?

As Secondary 1 students may need to cope with the demands in managing more subjects in secondary school, we strongly encourage students to focus on adjusting with the transition to secondary life before exploring a second CCA option in the later part of the year or when they are in Secondary 2.

Is there a CCA briefing? How does my child/ward sign up for CCA?

There will be a CCA briefing for all Secondary 1 students and further instructions would be provided regarding CCA options and selection.

Is there a trial period for CCA and if so, how long is that?

After allocation of the CCA, students will have a trial period of 4 weeks before they can change their CCA if necessary.

During the CCA carnival, do the students need to decide on the spot which CCAs they will like to join or can they bring home the information and discuss with their parents first?

Students do not need to decide on the spot during CCA carnival. Time will be given for them to discuss with their parents on the CCA they would like to join.

My child/ward had completed 120 hours (4yrs) of community volunteer service from S1 - S4 and the community centre had also issued a letter to my child/ward. Will my child/ward be awarded CCA points for his/her involvement?

Yes. The letter has to be submitted to the school so that it can be captured in the system. The child may be awarded point under Service in LEAPS 2.0

Is there a Mathematics or Science club in AI?

No.

Academic Matters

What are the school's signature programmes?

The distinctive programmes in our school are Outdoor Learning Experience (OLE), Applied Learning Programme (ALP), Enhanced Music Programme (EMP) and Music Preparatory Course (MPC).

More information can be found in our school website.

Will learning be affected if there is no lesson in Week 1 when school reopens?

The curriculum for the subjects have factored in the orientation programme in Week 1. Students’ well-being due to the transition from Primary to Secondary School is the main focus. The school believes that if students are able to cope well with the transitional changes, they will then be able to settle in to the new school environment which will then result in positive learning.

Can my child/ward not attend the OLE programme?

OLE is a cohort programme that is designed to allow students to bond and get to know their classmates and FTs better. This helps to strengthen peer support relationship which is important for character development during the adolescence phase in secondary schools. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, all students should attend the OLE programme which will eventually create memories for students as part of their secondary school life.

Mother Tongue Language Matters

Is Higher Tamil Language (HTL) offered in AISS?

Eligible students who wish to offer Higher Tamil (HTL) will need to attend lessons at external centres. HTL students need not attend TL lessons in school. During Mother Tongue Language periods, they are expected to do self-study.

There are five HTL centres nationwide:

Marsiling Secondary School, the nearest to our school, will conduct HTL lessons for Secondary 1 visiting students once every week.

Please submit your reply to PG notification on HTL offer by 27 Dec 2023.

For e-Dictionary on MTL, can we use the approved Primary School e-Dictionary - ZZ Perfection and not the one stated in the book list?

The e-dictionary given in the booklist is optional. Please refer to the list of approved dictionary in SEAB website.

https://www.seab.gov.sg/home/examinations/approved-dictionaries

If we did not receive any message from PG on whether our child is offering any HMTL, does it mean that we can proceed to buy the textbooks for G3 MTL only?

Yes.

Subject Based Banding Matters

If SBB subjects is/are offered and I have accepted on PG. Can I assume it is automatically approved?

Yes.

My child/ward is eligible for SBB English and Mother Tongue Language and I have submitted the forms. Does this mean that he/she will be offering the subjects and I will need to buy the books?

Yes.

Music Preparatory Course (MPC) Matters

What is the Music Preparatory Course (MPC)?

The Music Preparatory Course (MPC) is a special internal music programme designed to prepare students for the MOE-supported Enhanced Music Programme (EMP). It provides an enriched learning environment for Secondary One and Two students to deepen their music skills and knowledge.

My child/ward does not have any music background. Is he/she eligible for the MPC?

Normally, students joining the MPC would have at least several years' experience with playing/ performing solo or in ensembles on instruments/ voice (e.g. Band/ Choir/ Orchestra CCA), and with Music Theory.

Students without any formal training in music (i.e. self-taught performers) may qualify for the MPC through our auditions. If you are interested in Music but unsure if you qualify, please submit an application by 26 December and we will arrange for an audition.

Do note that we do not teach instrumental/ vocal lessons in the MPC. Students in the MPC are expected to continue with their own instrumental/ vocal lessons outside of school.

What is the difference between the EMP, MEP, and O-Level Music?

All of the above programmes lead towards O-Level Music or Higher Music. AISS is one of only 4 schools in Singapore offering the Enhanced Music Programme. To find out more, please view this infographic:

Please refer to the details here.

Please email your videos and application forms to chow_pei_yan@moe.edu.sg  by 26th December, 12pm.

When and how will the Listening Test and Interview be held?

What do we need to prepare?

The Listening Test and Interview will be held via Zoom by arrangement, upon receipt of your application form and performing videos.

The Listening Test will consist of questions based on musical styles and instruments, music theory, and notation reading.

Please prepare a computer or device with Zoom access. You should also have a pair of good headphones or speakers to listen to the audio clips during the aural test, and a working microphone (on your device or an external mic).

Personal Learning Device (PLD) Initiative @ AI

What is the Personal Learning Device (PLD) Initiative?
