History

SPIRAL started on 29 October 2023 with a combined gathering featuring all non-Muslim students of different faith and culture in the Main Stream of the school.

Cikgu Cyril Dason and Cikgu Jenny Ajadap was tasked by the school administration to guide and organize the non-Muslims as a group during the same time the Muslims had their own religious activities.

The Pengetua, Cikgu Anita Hasbi, wanted non-Muslim students to be more spiritually aware of their religious belief as it was also part of the National Education Philosophy and Rukunegara.

The initial set-up of SPIRAL was led by the Form 5 non-Muslim students and was divided into the Buddhist Community, Christian community, Moral Community and Moral Special Education Community.

In November 2023, the Form 6 Stream non-Muslims, which was initially under Cikgu Sim Soon Pheng, was combined with the Main Stream SPIRAL, unifying all the non-Muslims under SPIRAL SMK Matang Jaya.

On 15 September 2026, the unit name was changed to 'Community of Spirituality + Moral (SPIRAL) Comittee' to better reflect its role and spirit of togetherness.

Our Logo

The SPIRAL SMK Matang Jaya reflects the unity of the SPIRAL SMK Matang Jaya members despite differences. This is highlighted through the 'joined hands' of four human like figures (which are in prime colors) around the school logo, and hence indicating that the community is joined together through the school.

The colors have its own set of meaning as reflected below.

RED : Bravery and dynamics of the members
GREEN : The harmony of the community
BLUE : The wisdom of the members
YELLOW : The joy and energy of the community in praising God/uplifting their beliefs

Our Uniform

SPIRAL SMK Matang Jaya has two official uniforms. The uniforms can be seen below.

TEACHERS UNIFORM

Our teacher's uniform come in grey which is the colour associated with wisdom and experience. Gray color is also representative of nuance because it's neither black nor white which means that gray color brings a balanced approach.

The uniform also features the Sarawak Dayak motif prominently on the right, and Sabah's Linangit motif at the left of the shirt.

STUDENTS UNIFORM

Our student's uniform come in Turquoise which is a colour associated with protection, healing, success, and good fortune. The colour is also believed to promote positive energy, assist with communication, enhance creativity, and bring balance and spiritual grounding.

The uniform also features the Sarawak Dayak motif prominently on the right, and Sabah's Linangit motif at the left of the shirt.
