A teaching method where students learn by actively working on real-world projects rather than just listening to lectures or memorizing facts.
Real-world focus – Problems relate to real life
Student-centered – Students take responsibility for learning
Inquiry-based – Learning happens through questions and exploration
Collaborative – Often done in teams
Outcome-driven – Ends with a product, presentation, or solution
I carried out a Project-Based Learning (PBL) activity with my Year 5 pupils on the topic of Wild Animals, where learning was driven by real-world issues and active pupil involvement.
The project was guided by meaningful questions:
How can we help protect wildlife animals?
Why are some animals becoming endangered?
In their groups, pupils:
Explored information about their chosen animal
Identified causes of endangerment
Suggested solutions to protect the animal
Pupils created a digital presentation using Canva.
Each group presented their findings to the class using Canva slides.
