DIGITAL ELT MASTERY FOR TEACHING WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)
13 - 16 APRIL 2026
“AI may break language barriers, but teachers build the ability to truly communicate.”
In today’s digital age, artificial intelligence tools like Google Translate and ChatGPT can easily overcome language barriers. However, while AI helps pupils understand words and even correct sentences, it does not mean they truly learn the language. Pupils may understand the meaning, but they often struggle to express their own ideas with confidence. This is where the role of an English teacher remains essential as I guide my pupils to think, speak and write in English independently rather than simply depending on technology.
This is especially important for low-achieving pupils. They need step-by-step guidance, encouragement and motivation. AI cannot understand their feelings or support them when they struggle but I can.
Also, language is not only about grammar. It is about using the right tone, understanding context, and communicating appropriately. These are skills that pupils learn through interaction with a teacher.
So, I believe my role is still very important, but it is evolving. I am now a facilitator who guides pupils to learn English and use AI wisely without becoming too dependent on it.
“In the end, AI can support learning, but only teachers can inspire it.”
