Join me on an exciting journey as I explore the intricacies of implementing flipped learning in the classroom. Through multimedia elements like videos, images, and written reflections, you'll gain insights into the challenges and successes I encountered along the way. Witness firsthand the evolution of my pedagogical practice, and learn how I transformed my teaching style to better engage and inspire my students.
The pupils in my school are not fully literate to utilize technology independently in their learning. Hence, I usually incorporate technology in my teaching methods by taking them to the computer lab at school. I integrate multimedia content during pre-lesson using videos from Youtube to help my pupils to understand better as they are more attracted to visual and audio contents. Sometimes, I use Kahoot and quizizz to encourage them to participate in the lesson. It also helps me to check their understanding of the topic. There is not much use of technology in my lesson for the time being but I would love to let my pupils explore Canva and Edpuzzle in the future.
Yes, different technology integration levels can impact student learning experience. At substitution level, usage of technology has no functional change. It does improves learning experiences of pupils as it can be more fun but it doesn't enhance their understanding of the topic. On the other hand, at augmentation level, there is functional improvement. The lesson helps pupils to have a better collaboration with their peers. Therefore, they may engage more with the learning process. Modification level is where technology allows for significant task redesign. It may increase creativity and critical thinking of the pupils. This is because learning becomes more interactive and personalized. Lastly, the highest level of technology integration which is redefinition give the biggest impact to pupils' learning experiences as it allows them to engage deeply in the lesson. They may also experience authentic learning experiences depending on the task.
Flipped classroom happened when a teacher gives the content of the lesson to the students beforehand. Students will be able to go through the contents before the class and try to understand the lesson independently or with the help of others (outside classroom). By the time they go inside the classroom, high achievers will be able to focus on the homework or task given by the teachers while low achievers will get more attention from the teacher.
In my opinion, flipped classroom can be applied (in my class) by starting on easier topic. The topic should be more focused and specific. For example, when teaching writing, teacher may start with the grammar first. Teacher may provide pupils with short and intertaining video on nouns to be watched at home beforehand. Later on, they can have discussion or problem solving tasks at school.
