(Lecture: 4 Hours, Tutorial: 6 Hours)
There are 3 subtopics in this chapter:
CIrcles
Ellipses
Parabolas
Firstly, you will learn about circles. There are 2 ways to write the equation of circle: standard and general form. This subtopic can be quite long as there are many formula and skills that you need to learn and use when solving questions involving circles. Be patient and write down all the formulas that you learn in 1 page.
Then, you will learn about ellipses. There are 2 types of ellipses: horizontal and vertical ellipses. The difference between them is depending on the major axis of the ellipse. If the y-axis is the major axis, then it is a vertical ellipse and vice versa.
How to find the points of intersection between two circles
How to find the points of intersection between line and circle
Using discriminant to check whether intersect at 2 points, 1 point or 0 point
How to find the equation of tangent and normal to the circle when the point lies on the circle
How to find the length of a tangent line from a point using the Pythagoras Theorem
For some students that still have some problem to do completing the square, hopefully this video will be helpful!
Answer all questions. Then, do a 5x5 table, write 1 to 25 in each box (random order). We will play the bingo together in next class.
