Instructors:
Since our TEA cohort this year focused on gender, thus there were many issues discussed pertaining to gender - gender equality, equity, LGBTQ+, feminism and the list go on. This seminar has opened my eyes and broaden my knowledge as there was so much input that I gained. At the end of the seminars, TEA fellows were asked to come out with one Gender Action Project. What did I come out with?
This seminar has given me the platform for me to express one issue that has been on my mind for quite some time.
Happy Period
Aha, what is that? When it comes to period, it is always associated with painful, dark, gloomy and all other negative connotations. Why? In fact, it is a taboo in some part of the world to talk about this issue openly. There were TWO impetus that make me want to at least to talk about this:
1. There was once, I saw a group of MALE students at SCHOOL playing with/throwing the sanitary napkins (pads) and they were laughing out loud. Why? Did they find it funny?
2. I believe a talk pertaining to this topic should also be shared with male students as there are many things that they can take part as brothers and soon - husbands and fathers.
I know it is difficult for me to express this issue alone but I was lucky that I was not alone in this project. My TEA fellow from India - Monika has helped me a lot in doing this project. We were not alone too as my other fellow from Tanzania, Sharon was going to do the same project. If anyone is interested about this project, do not hesitate to contact me, perhaps we are actually sharing the same issues? #HappyPeriods
