In 2023, I participated in the Asia-Pacific Teacher Exchange for Global Education which has profoundly shaped my understanding of Global Citizenship Education or GCED. As an educator, I have the privilege of fostering critical thinking, empathy, and a commitment to a sustainable future. My three-month exchange at Seogwi Jungang Girls’ Middle School in Jeju Island was transformative.
Inspired by this exchange, I integrated GCED into my curriculum upon returning. A highlight was facilitating a collaborative project between my school and Seogwi Jungang Girls’ Middle School, focusing on global challenges like sea level rise, pollution and marine waste.
My experience teaching Korean students has equipped me with a deep understanding of (GCED) core principles. I'm excited applying this knowledge to cultivate a similar impact within the Malaysian context, aligning with our nation's values and aspirations. Through these experiences, I am confident in my ability to cultivate globally-minded citizens who are prepared to contribute positively to our world.
