In this video, I share my first grade math lesson on decomposing and subtracting 7, 8, and 9 from teen numbers. You will see how I plan and enhance instructional videos by incorporating research-based practices and techniques that support all learners, including second-language learners. I will also discuss how I plan for practice work involving paper-and-pencil tasks and math partner games for students to engage in surface and deep learning. Mastery checks aligned to a single objective are completed individually with a rubric on top that helps provide timely, specific, and actionable feedback and communicate the revision policy. Individual and public progress trackers increase motivation while assisting students to become better self-directed learners.
