Grade Level: 7th and 8th Grade
Content Area: Mandarin Chinese
Lesson Title: Vocabulary Instruction
Learning Objective: Students are able to comprehend the meanings of three adjectives and construct their own sentences using the prompt given.
My students started Mandarin Chinese immersion in kindergarten. Therefore 99% of my instruction language is the target language. In situations where students' language proficiency level is lower, using English in instruction is an option, too.
In the Google slide, there are five new vocabulary words, and I covered the first three in the video. I included a lot of visuals to help students understand the meaning of the example sentences. All images and examples covered in the video are selected with an intention. Hence, they are relevant to students’ lives, and they can respond to the prompt and construct their sentences using the words provided.
For this lesson, the guided notes and practice were combined.
Students are asked to engage with the prompt and complete the sentence in writing first and then share with the class in speaking in the next session.
We have a whole-class discussion activity after the self-paced session. During the discussion, the whole class will review the vocabulary they learned, share the sentences they constructed out loud, and receive feedback.
To the left is the mastery check for this lesson.
Depending on my time, I sometimes do the mastery check on Goformative.
Every lesson is marked by X/ R/ M(X= complete in high quality, R= Revising needed, M=missing). I continue to interate on my progress tracker based on what we need.
