My SAE is Meyer Farms and I'm operating a Boer Goat production. I am raising and selling goats to make money and also to show. I chose this because I have a strong passion for agriculture and making things better. I enjoy looking at reproduction and genes to get the best quality goat.
Many opportunities I have had from my SAE are showing at livestock shows. I have been showing my goats for many years now and watching people at these shows. Watching people helps me learn many tricks to have a better goat.
One skill that I have learned from Meyer Farms is working hard in everything that I do.

At Walinga USA in Sioux Center, we focus on building and fixing feed trailers. We make sure that the work we do is way better than when it came in the door. We want it to leave the way we would want it to look. I chose Walinga because it is something different to try out that I think I would be very interested in someday. They do many different things so I have a pretty wide variety of jobs.
I have learned a lot about welding and torching on metal. I’ve also learned how to fix many different things on a feed trailer.

My SAE is show pigs. I have to do daily care for the pigs, including: morning and night feeding, keeping the pens clean, walking (training) 1-2 times a day in the warmer months. This SAE is at my house. I chose this SAE because I've done it since I was little and I have grown to love showing pigs and working with them to reach their full potential.
I have learned a lot about accepting change and new things, but also learned the importance of work ethic and the value of hard work.

I've always wanted to work on a farm and work with livestock but I never new how to get into it. About 3 years ago I started going to different farms asking if there was any farm work they needed help with. I worked with a lot of different farmers and their livestock. I mostly worked with swine. I started doing chores at hog barns and loading them out early in the morning before I went to school. There was one farm that helped me get deeper into swine and I learned a lot with them. I decided I wanted to work with livestock so I reached out to one of my teachers and now I am working on their family farm. I now work for Bosma Farms in Hospers, Iowa, I do custom livestock hauling and custom feeder pigs. I do chores for 7 different barns and I love it because I love working with animals and helping feed the farmers in America.
Some of the opportunities that I have had is getting to run heavy equipment, getting more in depth with my community and learning more and more about a day to day life as a farmer.
One skill I've learned is Respect. I chose this because I have seen how much farmers truly have to work for what they have, I think everyone should realize they to respect those who are truly making a difference in the world today.

I work at Countryside Ag outside of Sioux Center, Iowa. At Countryside Ag my job is to package chemical orders, weigh and fill totes, load and unload trucks, take inventory, make deliveries, process returns, warehouse maintenance, and fuel planes.
I've had many awesome opportunities working at Countryside Ag such as working more in the agricultural field, being involved in the agronomy side, earning a higher-up position, and getting my certificate Iowa chemical handler.
Working at Countryside Ag has helped me develop skills like people skills, backing trailers up, and operating forklifts.

My SAE project is working for Hansen Poultry Processing located in Alton, Iowa. Working here I help with butchering chickens, and cleaning up the butchering plant. I chose this because I’ve always wanted to do things with animals, and my friend works there and is the owners son. Working here I always have a fun time catching up on life with everyone, and butchering chickens.
Opportunities that I have gotten from working there is that I could help them out on the farm. The owner of Hansen Poultry Processing also owns a farm right next to the plant. Most days after butchering chickens I would go and help them do chores and work on the farm.

Ever since 4th grade, I’ve continually developed a deeper passion for the cattle industry. From showing at the smallest area shows to traveling hundreds of miles to attend national shows, I’ve gained an extreme appreciation for the livestock industry and the people in it who work extremely hard for what they accomplish. I've shown cattle ever since 4th grade, which continually challenges me to spend more time in the barn and to put in the "dirty" work so that I can crush the things I wish to accomplish.
I've met so many incredible people through the livestock industry and developed deeper communication skills along the way.
