The ultimate combination of low tech and high tech! In this fun and educational program, we take found-object sound sources (trash) and then sample, manipulate and mutate them into danceable beats using science and technology. Bash the Trash Virtual Workshops (1-3 sessions) and Residencies (4+ sessions) are educational, fun, and flexible - plus we’re easy on materials - we’re putting the “home” back into homemade instruments! Students build an array of musical instruments and compose and perform music, using problem-solving, applied knowledge, and community/cooperative skills to build - and compose for - their virtual orchestra. Author visits:
These private, just-for-your-classroom virtual presentations are similar to in-person author visits and writing workshops. They are 45-50 minute sessions that begin with a 20-25 minute presentation on the writing process, using selected books as focus titles and discussing writer’s notebooks, brainstorming, outlining and planning, research, drafting, revision, and the publishing process. Sessions wrap up with 20-25 minutes of Q and A with students.

Kate’s virtual visits are designed to be developmentally appropriate for different age groups. Her interactive K-1 sessions focus on brainstorming ideas for stories and keeping a notebook, as well as nature and STEM concepts in her picture books. Kate’s sessions for grades 2-3 focus on the high-interest science and history research she does for her picture books and chapter books as well as the writing process in action. Sessions for grades 4-5 focus on research, organizing ideas, drafting, and especially revision in the writing process for Kate’s picture books, chapter books, novels, and works of nonfiction, and sessions for grades 6-12 are similar, with even more in-depth looks at the research and writing process.

Writing Workshops:
These private, just-for-your-classroom 45-60 minute Skype or Zoom writing workshops begin with a quick presentation on Kate’s writing process and progress to hands-on student writing. Kate offers the following sessions as virtual writing workshops:

Dan will give a brief introduction of himself. Depending on grade levels, will read one of his picture books, explain how he got the idea for My Weird School, and read a chapter or two. In the older grades, he will tell the story of how multiple publishers rejected his baseball card adventure series, but how he never gave up. He will do interactive small group writing workshops with students and construct the framework for a story together.

VIRTUAL - Author Storyteller - Read a Little Every Day (for PK-2)

Mark Binder is an author/storyteller with decades of experience in schools -- and via video. His program blends conversation, reading, storytelling and question/answer. There are follow-up teacher guides available. For early learners and elementary ages, he has written books and audios that include THE BED TIME STORY BOOK; KINGS WOLVES PRINCESSES AND LIONS; and CINDERELLA SPINDERELLA, and the Parents' Choice Gold audiobook TRANSMIT JOY. With a blend of reading, storytelling and songs, and question/answer, he engages the youngest school audiences and transmits the joy of reading. Mark astonishes young listeners, shares nutritious and delightful stories, and then answers questions! Teachers are welcome to request particular stories or themes. Mark has a repertoire of more than 150 tales. Stories for Peace, Holiday Stories, Spooky Stories and more. Programs include one eBook per student and teacher.

VIRTUAL - Author Visit - Astonishing Writing (3-5; 6-8; 9-12)

Program Description: Mark Binder is an author/storyteller with decades of experience in schools -- and via video. His program blends conversation, reading, storytelling and question/answer. There are follow-up teacher guides available. For middle school, he has written IT ATE MY SISTER and THE ZOMBIE CAT, for High School, he has the Audie-Award Nominated author of LOKI RAGNAROK, and the forthcoming, STRAIGHT OUT OF GROSTON. This is an excellent way for students to learn from, hear from, ask questions, and speak with an author. As an award-winning author and storyteller, Mark is able to use technology to connect with readers and listeners (and watchers). Mark works with the teachers in advance to prep questions. The video conference includes reading, storytelling, and, most importantly, Q&A. Students can ask questions and lead the discussion. re.). Programs include one eBook per student and teacher.

Teaching by Tales are live online storytelling programs tailored to teacher interests and each grades social studies and literature curriculum.

Presentations consist of a slideshow where Peter will show how he progressed from being a child who loved to write and draw, to being a professional author and artist. He will discuss his process of writing and illustrating, read his latest book, do a brief drawing demonstration, and then answer questions from the audience. Peter adjusts his presentation to suit the age and attention space of his audience. He has written ten books, which include: The Wild Robot; The Wild Robot Escapes; My Teacher is a Monster.

When schools began closing during the Covid 19 emergency Timothy Young had to cancel all of his in-person author visits. He took some time and rebuilt his entire presentation so it could be done virtually. You can bring him to your students in many different ways. He can do online presentations of different lengths, classroom visits as schools come back in session and virtual assemblies for large groups of students. He has presented over many platforms and can tailor his presentation to meet your needs and circumstances. Presentations consist of book readings, drawing demonstrations and a Q&A that includes visuals, examples and great stories.

Timothy can also record programs for schools that cannot bring authors directly to their students. He has done split presentations where he records himself reading some of his books and doing a drawing demo. After the students view it, he records answers to their questions as a follow-up.
