The CORE 1 Team, which stands for “COmmitted to Responsible Education”, wants your child's high school education to be a positive, worthwhile experience. Making the transition from intermediate school to high school can be very difficult for many ninth graders. In order to ease this transition, Moanalua High School implemented the CORE program in 1991; and now 30 years later, we continue to work together to help our students succeed.
The goals of this program are to provide students with opportunities to gain self-confidence, to develop self-esteem, to become responsible citizens and to be successful in language arts, social studies, math and science. In order to accomplish these goals, we will work together to provide your child with a positive, supportive, and nurturing classroom environment. In addition to working on content and critical thinking skills, we will help them to strengthen other skills, such as: social interaction, study/work habits, time-management, priority setting, and test-taking. Working as a team, the teachers will serve as exemplary models of enthusiastic learners so that school becomes an enjoyable place for all.
We believe that every student has the potential to succeed, but needs the support and guidance of a team. Our team consists of not only the teachers, but also the students themselves, their families, their counselors and our administrators. The idea of being a team is very important to us and we try to include the families and students as much as possible. Every semester we will have a parent night, during which we showcase some of the projects and lessons the students have completed and highlight the next semester’s goals. We work to maintain open lines of communication so that we can ensure the success of your ninth grader. Each teacher will be responsible for working with one group of students. The teacher will counsel, monitor, guide, and nurture your child as well as communicate with you on a regular basis. You will be regularly informed of your child's progress and you will also be able to communicate with any or all his/her teachers very readily.
In keeping with the philosophy of SCBM, one of the most important facets of this program is the total involvement of students, parents, and teachers in your child's education. We believe that through all of our efforts, your children will improve in performance, achievement, and attitude. We count on your support.
