Academically prepared and motivated juniors and seniors may earn college credits by taking University of Minnesota Twin Cities courses through the College in the Schools (CIS) program. Experience the pace and rigor of U of M courses taught at your own high school. Taking a U of M course through CIS is similar to taking the same course on campus. Your grade will be recorded on an official U of M transcript, and you will earn U of M credit that is recognized by many colleges and universities from coast to coast.

CIS Human Physiology Technology and Medical Devices
11th-12th Grade
Prerequisite: Biology or AP Biology
This course is designed for those who are interested in pursuing a degree or career in the medical field. It can be taken in the 11th or 12th grade as an elective science course. This course is meant to be the equivalent of a one-semester college introductory anatomy and physiology course that covers topics of the human body and its variety of systems and functions. This course will involve engineering skills to discuss and build model medical devices and will also involve dissections of model organisms. Students should expect a higher workload than most classes, with 1-2 hours a night being spent on the course. Best success is seen in self-driven students with strong application skills. Students will have the opportunity to earn credit from the University of Minnesota upon completion of this course. This course is equivalent to taking BIOL 1015 (4 credits) at the University of Minnesota.
CIS Authority and Rebellion: US History to 1865
11th-12th Grade (can be taken in place of American History or as an elective)
Prerequisite: A S1 grade of B or higher in your previous years History and English courses.
This course examines the beginnings of American history from the 16th-century beginnings of sustained contact and exchange between the Americas, Europe, and Africa, through the world-revolutionary founding growth of a new republic, the United States of America, to the Civil War’s violent conclusion in 1865 that confirmed the national Union. This course is equivalent to taking HIST 1307 (3 credits) at the University of Minnesota.
CIS Global America: US History Since 1865
11th-12th Grade (can be taken in place of American History or as an elective)
Prerequisite: CIS Authority and Rebellion- This is the second portion of a two part course.
This course examines American history from the conclusion of the American Civil War to the early 21st century, with an emphasis on the United States’ ascendancy into a global economic, political, and military power in an increasingly globalized world. This new role required a persistent evaluation of American interests in the international arena. This expanded global role was also confronted by a persistent re-evaluation of the ways in which the American values of democracy, liberty, and equality were exercised within, and by, the United States. This course is equivalent to taking HIST 1308 (3 credits) at the University of Minnesota.
CIS Basic and Applied Statistics
11th-12th Grade
Prerequisite: Precalculus
CIS Statistics is designed to engage students using a modeling and simulation approach to inference. This student-centered course makes extensive use of small and large group activities and discussions to introduce ideas and content. Upon completion of this course, students should have an understanding of the foundational concepts of data, variation, and inference, as well as an appreciation for the fundamental role that statistics plays in a host of disciplines, such as business, economics, law, and medicine. This course is equivalent to taking EPSY 3246 (3 credits) at the University of Minnesota.
