Hello UCS Families!
As we approach the holiday season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the amazing accomplishments of our students, staff, and community over the past couple of weeks, and share a few important updates for the coming days.
A huge thank you to Amanda Cowan for her incredible organization of the Annual Turkey Trot. This event continues to bring our community together in such a fun and meaningful way! Our 3rd and 4th graders amazed us with their Structure and Function Animal Projects, showcasing their hard work not only to peers but also to the families who came out in full support—what an incredible turnout!
A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Aucter and Ms. Bolio-Gallaspie for coordinating last night’s Lantern Parade and Sing-Along. It was wonderful to see so many of you there, making it a true community celebration. Mrs. Bernier's Class shone brightly as they led this morning's All-School Morning Meeting. They shared information about the ongoing food and gift card drives while entertaining us with jokes, poems, and songs.
Congratulations to our Fire Safety Calendar Contest Winners! Ona Randall (April winner), Forest Baker (April runner-up), and Victoria Barbine (Cover runner-up) are being recognized today at the State House for their outstanding work.
We’re excited to welcome a Hip Hop Artist in Residence during PE classes next week! Special thanks to Mrs. Cowan and MMU Dance Coach Rose Bedard for organizing this. More info about this below!
Student Early Release Day is on Wednesday, December 11th. Dismissal begins at 12:20 PM. Please plan for your child to arrive home approximately two hours earlier than usual.
The PTO is hosting a "Kids Day Out" Fundraiser on Saturday, December 14th. Check out the flyer below for details on this wonderful event.

OPEN TUTORING POSITION
UCS is seeking an experienced and patient academic tutor to work with a primary-grade child for 2 hours a day. The ideal candidate will provide personalized support in foundational subjects such as reading, writing, and math, fostering confidence and enthusiasm for learning. If you’re passionate about helping children succeed academically, we’d love to hear from you! Please contact David Marlow at david.marlow@mmuusd.org.
HIP HOP -> ART in RESIDENCE
We are thrilled to be starting our week long residency with Rose Bedard next week! Here are important details about the week:
-Students will participate in a hip hop residency next week. Students should have sneakers ALL five days next week! It is very hard to hip hop in crocs or boots.
-Students will be learning about teamwork, building community, taking risks to try new things, and perseverance through hip hop. Each grade will be learning a hip hop dance that they will then perform on Friday evening at Browns River Middle School.
-On Friday afternoon all students will be bussed to BRMS for a "dress rehearsal". This is an opportunity for them to practice dancing on the gym floor at BRMS and having a "performance" in front of the other students. It is a great way to practice for Friday evening!
Please plan to join us Friday evening (12/13) at Browns River Middle School, 6pm, for our hip hop showcase where each grade will perform their routine (special guests will include the SPARC dance company and MMU Dance Team).
MORE DETAILS ABOUT OUR FRIDAY PERFORMANCE
The performance will be in the Browns River Middle School gym and will last approximately 45 min
Please plan to arrive between 5:45 and 5:50pm. Students will be sitting with their grade level on the floor in the gym, families will sit in the bleachers.
Students should wear:
-sneakers
-black or dark colored pants that are comfy to move in
-Shirts or sweatshirts can be: UCS apparel, white, green, purple, gray, or the leaf shirts that they made in art last year.
Please do not go out and buy anything for this performance! Let Mrs. Cowan (PE) know if you have any questions!!
We will also be collecting non perishable food donations and gift cards this night for our UCS food drive!
A very special thank you to the VT Arts Council for the grant allowing us to have Rose come to UCS!

FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
It is important that your student is dressed appropriately for the weather and is prepared to play outside every day. During the winter season, students should have a jacket, gloves or mittens, and a hat. If there is snow on the ground, snow boots and pants are necessary. Also please remember to pack an extra set of seasonal clothing in student backpacks, including socks, for slips and spills.
Please read the District Illness Guidelines. This will help you to decide whether or not to send your child to school. Please feel free to contact the health office if you have questions about sending your child to school after an illness. You can contact us at 802-858-6316 or ucshealthoffice@mmuusd.org
Current COVID-19 Guidance
If a person is COVID-positive, they may go back to normal activities after at least one day (24 hours) if:
Symptoms are getting better overall and
No fever for at least 24 hours (and are not using fever-reducing medicines).
In addition, it is recommended to take extra prevention steps for the next 5 days after resuming normal activity: Practice good hygiene. Wear a mask. Keep physical distance. Improve air quality. Any of these prevention steps can help limit the spread of respiratory viruses. The more steps you take, the lower your risk of getting others sick.
The district has a supply of masks and antigen tests (limited supply) if requested.
Please report all positive cases, student or staff, to the school nurse.
District guidelines remain in place - If you are sick, please stay home. Please read this link District Illness Guidelines.
