Greetings Caregivers,
Our class has decided that they would like to have a Share Day. They chose Mondays which will be a little harder for them (you) to remember...but it was their choice. On Mondays, we will start our morning with a time to share. They can bring an item if they want, please nothing that is too expensive, fragile, or sentimental..a picture of those items would suffice, and that way they can't break or be lost. If they don't bring something they can share a story.
We ended our week with several big events. We were joined by our buddy room buddies and participated in a shared watercolor project. The final piece was in the Friday folder....along with our class photo and school work. We also played with cloud dough! I made it ahead of time so there would be plenty of time to play...and play they did! Check out the photos! Then of course most of our class participated in the annual Turkey Trot. Some of our classmates ran two or three times around the path. That is impressive! I hope you all have a lovely long vacation and get to spend quality time with your families.
Have a wonderful vacation week.
~Ms. L

Learning Highlights from the Week
We have begun unit 3; How Many Stickers? How Many Cents?
This unit has students making sense of place value, decomposing and decomposing numbers into tens and ones, and adding and subtracting within 100. It also has us tackling story problems that have unknown starts or changes. You will see unit 1 workbooks coming home. It is important to note that not all pages will be completed. The program provides MANY pages that are for extra practice. I encourage you to utilize these extra pages as they are great practice.
Our class has started our Wild and Endangered Animal books. We will be writing one section at a time. This past week or so we spent a lot of time understanding what physical characteristics are. We also explored why some of those characteristics help the animals survive. Want to have some fun? Ask your child what animal they are researching and more specifically about their physical characteristics. You might be amazed at how much your child already knows! After break we will start learning about animal behaviors.
Health Office News
UCS has many items of extra outdoor gear for students to borrow, however there is not enough for everyone. It is the time of the year to please send your child in with extra layers, outdoor footwear and sneakers/ shoes for inside, and weather appropriate jackets, hats, mittens/ gloves, and any other face coverings such as scarfs etc.
Every Friday morning we will focus on one aspect of social and emotional learning. This week we were lucky enough to join our buddy classroom, Ms. Melone's 3/4 class for the second time!! We engaged in a collaborative watercolor art piece. We had a great time meeting our buddies. We will get together with them once a month. Check out some of the photos! Mrs. Erickson also comes into our classroom to provide guidance classes. This past week the focus was the power of being able to apologize. You can find those papers in the Friday folder.

NEW NEWS!
Snow Motion is coming soon. In January and February, there are 4 dates scheduled. We would love to have you volunteer to help make these days wonderful for all of our students. The paper has all of the dates, and I will include them here once we come back from the December break.
Believe it or not December is right around the corner. On December 5th the 2nd grade parents are hosting Kid's Day Out. This is a PTO event from 5:30 - 8 p.m that day. I am mentioning this early because we need second grade parents to volunteer to help that day. Here is a link to contact the PTO directly. Thank you in advance!!
