CAMELS HUMP MIDDLE SCHOOL MOUNTAINEERS
“I am somebody. I was somebody when I came. I’ll be a better somebody when I leave.” - Rita Pierson
September has arrived and we’ve completed five full days of school! Students have done an amazing job settling back into the school schedule, reviewing all the expectations and reconnecting with peers and teachers. We always begin our school year by intentionally scheduling time specifically for creating the conditions for connection, belonging and joy. Before our teachers take a deep dive into new learning and content, we take time to build relationships, get to know each other on a deeper level, and focus on strengthening our sense of community at Camels Hump. Two of our collective commitments at CHMS are valuing and committing to inclusivity and working to create safe and brave spaces where all members of our school community are respected, heard and welcome. In addition, we value relationships and are intentional with making time to build and maintain them with all members of the school community. We know that when people feel connected and valued, they are ready to learn, take risks and grow.
One of the ways in which we are working together to create stronger bonds with each other is by adjusting our advisory program. In order to connect with each other and have an increased sense of belonging, we responded to student and staff feedback. Our advisory groups are now mixed grades. Each group will have students from 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Students will have opportunities to connect and interact with peers they may not otherwise have had the chance to engage with during the school day. Students will be mentors to each other as well as supporters.
We also are strengthening our sense of community and belonging by continuing our tradition of inviting students to design our school yearbook covers. This opportunity allows students to share their creativity, skills and ideas while taking ownership in how they represent our school community and celebrate all the great things that happen at CHMS.
Camels Hump takes pride in all that we do with our students. We are so excited for the 2026-2027 school year and we can’t wait to see what our Mountaineers accomplish!

CHMS Partners in Education (P.I.E.) is excited for another great school year. We are partnering with CHMS for their annual Open House on Wednesday, September 16th.
P.I.E. will be providing drinks to go along with a food tasting hosted by the school’s food/nutrition team. We are looking for donations of cups, cider and seltzer.
We are also kicking off our first fundraiser of the year: Pies for P.I.E.! We’re looking for families to donate pies that we can sell during Open House. It’s a fun and easy way for families to pick up dessert while supporting P.I.E. and all the great things we help make possible for our students, teachers, and the school community!
Open House will have two waves:
5th and 6th grade Families: 5:30-6:30pm
7th and 8th grade Families: 7:00-8:00pm
Please use this signup genius link for both time slots. Donations can be dropped off at school that morning or brought with you at the start of Open House.
Thank you for helping us kick off the school year. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
Camels Hump Middle School’s parent group welcomes you to get involved and stay connected. Watch the CHMS Mountaineer Newsletter for upcoming events and announcements.

We are now partnering with many local producers to bring fresh Vermont food to our lunch trays including: Maple Meadow Eggs, VT Beef from Ferrisburgh, Misty Knoll Farms Chicken, Cabot Creamery Cheese and Yogurt, produce from Burnt Rock Farm, The Farm Upstream and Jericho Settlers Farm, Cold Hollow Cider, Chapin Orchard apples, and more...
CHMS recently received a generous grant from Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Evan Deckers, who has ties to Huntington, Vermont, through the NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats program. Thanks to this grant, we added a bulk milk dispenser at the start of the school year.
We’re excited to now partner with Monument Farms Dairy in Weybridge, VT, to offer 100% Vermont milk to our students. With schools now allowed to serve whole milk at lunch, we will begin a pilot of Monument Farms whole milk in our dispenser starting February 10. Hood 1% and skim milk will continue to be available in cartons at both lunch and breakfast.
We continue to respond to the feedback from our students and families and are grateful for the support of our community.
