Standards

Example math items on this webpage represent math items that are similar to what is on the MLS Math exam. MLS items are aligned to the NYS Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards, available at the following link.

The math items used on this webpage are taken from NYSED's released math exams and archived curriculum materials. Most new exams explicitly state the NGLS alignment. Examples from older NYS tests and curriculum are aligned to Common Core Standards. To see how these standards align to NGLS, visit the NYSED website.

A Note on Grades 1-2 Math Items: Since there are no standardized tests for Grades 1-2, the examples provided on this webpage were taken from archived EngageNY curriculum. To maintain consistency with the MLS, the questions provided were adapted from available materials to reflect multiple choice question-answer sets found in our assessments.

A Note on Grade 9 Math Items: The examples provided on this webpage were taken from the NYS Algebra I and Geometry Regents exams. Regents examination answer choices are given as 1-4 instead of A-D. To maintain consistency with the MLS, the examples provided here have been modified from their original version to reflect the alphabetic enumeration used on our assessments.
