This interactive workshop invites educators to reimagine assessment, not as something that happens at a single moment in time, but as continuous: an ongoing, collaborative process that actively involves students and fuels deep learning. Together, we will explore strategies, tools, and practices that make conceptual understanding visible, purposeful, and transferable. By focusing on evidence of learning, developing students as “assessment-capable” learners, and designing for authentic application, participants will leave equipped to create assessment experiences that deepen and extend learning while sharpening the focus on how to assess conceptual understanding.
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
Understand the concept and importance of continuous assessment.
Explore rubrics for understanding as a method to promote ongoing assessment of conceptual understanding.
Identify effective strategies for checking in on student understanding during the learning process.
Recognize the role of collecting and evaluating evidence of understanding.
Learn ways to actively involve students in the assessment process to foster ownership and engagement.
Explore authentic assessment tasks that promote transfer and application of learning.
Reflect on and refine personal assessment practices.
