As we begin our school year we will start with reviewing first grade standards as we get to know one another and build our classroom community. In our Wonders Language Arts program, we will be starting our Smart Start introductory unit to review vowel sounds and first grade skills. In Smart Start we will also complete a two week mini-unit on Lion and the Mouse. We will be listening to and reading different versions of this fable and work to compare and contrast these stories. In our brand new Math curriculum program, California Reveal Math, we will be introducing our place value standards as we begin to examine the different ways to write numbers and working to identify number patterns. We will practice our writing and learning what it means to be successful second graders!
