Teaching and Learning from Everyone's Identities
“For me, social justice is about creating a classroom where all participants are active agents of learning, including myself as the teacher. All identities are not only respected but also honored and celebrated. In my classroom, it is important to make room for different perspectives, not only the views of people in power, when discussing sociocultural and historical events. Critical thinking is valued and encouraged so that we can question, reflect, and learn from multiple voices. This learning space must bring joy and be safe for everyone, providing the strategies, attention, and tools needed to meet each individual’s needs.”
