Layers of Self: Visual Narratives of Teaching
Layers of Self: Visual Narratives of Teaching
By Franny Perez-Ramirez, PhD student, College of Applied Human Sciences and Educational Theory and Practice, 2025 WVU Art in the Libraries Graduate Student Exhibit Awardee
Layers of Self explores how teachers’ personal experiences, values, and beliefs shape their teaching identities, particularly when addressing inequities and fostering fairness in education. Each piece in the exhibit is inspired by in-depth interviews and identity maps created by educators who reflected on the many identities they carry into their classrooms and how these roles influence their approaches to creating more inclusive and empowering learning environments.
